What Is a Moval Diamond?
Moval is short for marquise-oval. The cutter shapes the stone with an oval's curved sides and brilliant facet pattern, then narrows each end to a gentle point instead of a rounded arc. Because the points are blunt, a moval ring is less prone to chipping than a marquise and easier to set; because the outline is longer than an oval, a moval diamond ring makes the finger look slimmer. Movals are rare in mined diamonds.
